Eleanor Cunningham

Eleanor Cunningham is a visual artist based in Dunbar whose practice explores memory, regeneration, and our connection to the natural world. Working across painting, textiles, and mixed media, she draws inspiration from the coastal and woodland landscapes around her, often beginning with walks that inform her mark-making and material choices. Her work layers translucent papers, pigments made from local stones, and expressive drawing to echo the shifting, fragile nature of memory and place. Eleanor is particularly interested in how both people and landscapes regenerate after periods of disruption – a theme explored through textured surfaces, delicate layers, and the interplay of light and shadow. Rooted in a sensitivity to materials and the stories they hold, her practice invites moments of reflection and stillness. She has a degree in textile design and recently completed a Master’s in Fine Art with Falmouth University.

Additional experiences: The harbour is always worth a visit - and the Nauti seafood shack there is great. I’d also recommend Parker’s for coffee and food. And a walk at John Muir country park.
