Iona Molleson

Iona Molleson studied Drawing & Painting at Edinburgh College of Art and an MA in Art Education at Oxford Brookes University. Iona paints and sketches from life ‘en plein air’ to capture the light and colours of the East Coast near where she lives in Haddington and around the farmland by her studio loft near Dunbar. Inspired by her Hebridean roots, Iona loves to take regular painting trips to her studio at Borvemor on the Isle of Harris where she finds great joy in responding to the sea, landscape and every changing light of the Hebrides.
I find my inspiration to paint comes from a response to light and observations of the landscapes and coastlines near where I live. I try to complete a painting alla prima and work for several hours at a time outdoors, which I very much enjoy.
