Iona Molleson Venue 16

Iona Molleson is a Scottish Contemporary Artist and Educator known for her en plein air paintings and works out of a Loft Studio on a farm near Dunbar. Her practice is rooted in direct observation and she typically works alla prima outdoors to capture the spontaneous light effects with fresh brushstrokes. Her oil paintings often focus on the changing seasons and atmospheric conditions of the fieldscapes and coastlines of East Lothian. Drawn repeatedly to the wild beauty of the West Coast of the Isle of Harris, her maternal home, in the Outer Hebrides, Iona founded Borvemor Arts Studio where she curates and hosts a Summer Art Show once a year.

Iona studied BA Hons Drawing and Painting at Edinburgh College of Art, holds an MA Artist Teacher from Oxford Brookes University and a PGDE in Gaelic Education. Iona is an active member of the local art community in East Lothian and shares her expertise through teaching.

While primarily an oil painter, Iona also enjoys printmaking and creates collagraphs and screenprints which are inspred by her sketching trips outdoors
