Katherine Swinney

I paint landscapes and seascapes in oil developed from drawing and pondering as I walk along. I've created wooden landscape books that build a narrative to reflect this process. Maps are used as grounds for painting and to explore places I have been or which capture my imagination; sometimes because of the space itself or a fascination with the beauty of the map. Following on from the books, I have been experimenting this year with diptych and triptych panels that use features of iconography to glorify the elements, particularly the ancient rocks of Dunbar
