Penny Wemyss

My work explores being out ‘in the landscape’; walking, wandering, seeing, feeling and absorbing. Whilst I take time to draw and get what I call ‘quick information grabs’, I also take time to stop and stare. These initial drawings, but more importantly, the memories and feelings of being ‘out there’ serve as jumping off points for my work. I am excited by the energy that exudes from a completely still landscape and the energy it creates within me, the lines that wander across and through, the interlocking colours and shapes, the connections, and the clues of our connections with the land, tracks, a path, a gate, a fence. It is this energy and excitement, the lines, shapes and connections, that inspire me to create visual memories of the experience.
