Benedict Barbour
I’m a practising artist working principally in sculpture and drawing. I create site-specific work that references historical artefacts, materials and processes, making contrasts with contemporary practices and drawing attention to underlying relationships that may otherwise be overlooked. I studied BA Fine Art Hons at The Slade School of Fine Art, UCL (1998); Postgraduate Diploma in Drawing at The Royal Drawing School (2007), MFA Fine Art at San Francisco Art Institute (SFAI) (2019); Professional Furniture Making Course at The Chippendale International School of Furniture (2021). Solo Exhibitions include: Noon Reports: Qatar to South Hook, Katara Arts Centre, Qatar and The Waterfront Gallery, Wales (2012); New City, Katara Art Centre, Qatar (2011). I was recently awarded the Scottish Emerging Sculptor Award 2025 for a new public artwork to be installed in Edinburgh Park, Edinburgh. I have a studio in Belhaven, East Lothian.
